From ancient times the lion has been the embodiment of strength and raw power. In Shamanism, the lion symbolises a guardian and protector. By nature, this spirit guide teaches us about determination, focus, control, pride and leadership.

The lion resides in masculine energy and draws from the left side of the brain which governs the right side of the body. The lion embodies logic and the analytical mind. His mane depicts the sun. The sun, solar is masculine energy.

Lions are generally social, they form a pride with several lionesses’, cubs and sometimes other lions. There are also times when lions can be nomadic and spend a great deal of time in solitude.

The roar of a lion is to find your voice, speak your truth.

Our ancestors coveted the spirit power of lion. In Shamanism, it is believed that once a Shaman joined with the spirit of this animal, they would be imbued with the raw physical power, strength, courage, fearlessness of the lion. Connecting one with the lifeblood of this spirit guide.

Lions rest and are inactive for about 20 hours a day. They become active in the evening and night.

The lioness has been revered since ancient times. She epitomizes the goddess and divine feminine energy. The right side of the brain is her domain from where she presides over the left side of the body. She embodies creativity, imagination, originality, vision, inspiration and resourcefulness.

In Shamanism, the lioness personifies mother energy. Mother energy is the union of her loving embrace as a mother with that of a fierce protector. The nurturer and carer within, complementing her essential nature as a hunter and provider.

Lionesses are hunters. Each lioness has a role to play within the pride. Lionesses are known for their strategy and creating opportunities where they might not appear to be any. There is also a definite social hierarchy which denotes the leadership of the pride. The lionesses within a pride are pivotal to the prosperity, growth and survival of the tribe. As they hunt primarily during the evening or at night, they represent the connection to the divine feminine lunar energy of the moon.

Our ancestors venerated the lioness also for her instinctive sexual prowess. She symbolised fertility, pregnancy and birth.

The roar of the lioness is a call to action.
